Dual Aurora Wave!
I still remember being a little girl and watching pretty cure on the tv for the first time. at that point I had just started living in japan and barely knew the language yet, but I thought the show was so cool! I loved seeing these girls fight monsters every day and have such genuine love for each other. over the years, I've developed a much deeper appreciation for pretty cure as an adult.to me, pretty cure is exactly what a womanist piece of media should be like. it's girls who are existing for each other, independent of the men in the story, fighting through their struggles and coming together with love for each other. it has genuine wlw rep in multiple seasons, as well as multiple examples of gnc girls being treated with respect and love.
even though I'm an adult now and the series remains targeted towards kids, it's such a feel good show for me and I love watching it! it gets surprisingly emotional at times too, and has characters I always feel really connected to. no matter what season it is, I always feel like I can root for these girls and want to see them be their best selves.
overtime I've been through every season, and I never get tired of watching new generations of girls fight to be their best selves, cheesy tropes and all. here's to the future seasons of pretty cure and beyond!
